Eleven children with congenital heart defects were operated on by specialists from the Syzganov Medical Institute as part of a Cardio Surgery Project. The operations were done on children who had still not reached one year old!

Cardio surgeon Kuralai Battalova explained that operating on new born children is one of the hardest and time-consuming areas of medicine. "Small children, due to their underdeveloped central nervous systems are still physically vulnerable. If we don't get them the help they need in time, then in 70% of cases this results in death or long-term handicaps. We are currently operating on children who weigh eight kilograms whose condition is critical or may become critical in the near future. Our aim is to provide specialized cardio-surgical assistance to new born children with any sort of heart deficiency".
